UBUD At the heart of Bali lies Ubud, an inland town revered as the island's cultural & spiritual hub. The name Ubud comes from the Balinese word ubad -which means medicine- because of the healing properties of the plants grown at the nearby Campuhan River. Here, the landscape comes alive with rural ceremonies – cremations, weddings, births – celebrated by this kindly people within the traditional context set by their Hindu religion and unique gods.
CANGGU On Bali's west coast, set amid rice paddies and lotus ponds exists this quiet seaside paradise. The unique accommodations here are in a village resort/yoga retreat that offers an authentic Indonesian experience in original antique wooden homes that have been refurbished and restored.
ITINERARY DAY 1: The adventure begins upon arrival at Denpasar airport where you will be met and transferred a short distance to the hotel in Ubud.
DAYS 2 - 6: The cooking program starts with an introduction into the exotic scents & tastes of the unique Balinese kitchen. A hands-on class taught by native chefs and lunch that you have prepared follows. Sightseeing includes visits to nearby artist's craft studios.
The next few days include cooking classes, a dawn rice paddy trek, a performance of the kecak & ritual fire dances and the opportunity to witness the sacred day of Galungan- a unique Balinese Hindu celebration to welcome the ancestors. Leisure time for independent exploration is also planned.
DAYS 6 - 8: The adventure continues with a journey to the ancient village of Canggu, for yoga, relaxation and a cooking class in the ancient art of Indonesian "waroeng" cooking.
